Dean’s fingers tap the bottom of his plate as his eyes roam over the display of food.

“Bobby’s really outdone himself this year, eh?”

Ellen’s voice startles Dean out of his head and he let’s out a nervous chuckle, “Huh, yeah…”

There wasn’t an empty square of counter in the whole kitchen. Food was everywhere. He knew Thanksgiving was the food holiday, but this… he did not remember this much food last year.

Maybe there was and I just never noticed?

Ellen drops the serving spoon back into the green beans before spinning away from the display to grab some cutlery off the table, “I’m almost out of your way, don’t you worry.”

Dean lets out another half-hearted chuckle, fingers tapping against the bottom of the empty plate that was clutched to his chest more rapidly as he watched her disappear behind the swinging kitchen door.

As soon as it swings closed, he lets out a deflating breath and eyes all the food, game time.

He licks his lips as he lowers the plate from his chest and reaches for the first set of serving utensils. 3 pieces of turkey, 142 calories. He pauses in front of the bird, come on Winchester. You can do better than that.

Prompt: Stuffing Month

“Sammich.”

The sing-song voice that floated through the door made the giant’s shoulders relax. He swung the door open and finally found his boyfriend – who was laying on the bed with nothing but a sheet covering his nether regions.

Sam rolled his eyes and made his way over to the closet, “People are gonna start showing up soon, y’know.”

“Doesn’t mean we have to let them in.” Gabriel wiggled his eyebrows at the ex-hunter’s back, “C’mon Sammich. Stuff me.”

Sam couldn’t help but chuckle at that, hand faltering as he reached for his suit, “I love it when you talk dirty to me.”

Gabriel sat up, letting the sheet fall to the side, “I’m just trying to help you find your holiday spirit.”

Hallucifer, Dark-ish, 2023’s 1st Thanksgiving fic

Prompt: Pizza & Beer Day

“Crap,” Sam raced over to the bunker’s oven as he saw black smoke billow out from the corners of the door. He grabbed the oven mitts off the counter and flung the door open, allowing more smoke to come out, “Crap, crap, crap.”

“Can’t you do anything right?”

The giant did his best to ignore his hallucination’s words as he not-so-carefully reached through the thick blackness blindly, using feel to get the now-ruined turkey out of the oven. He reached over the roasting pan to turn the appliance off and deflated against the counter with disappointment. Damn it!

Lucifer raised an eyebrow from his perch on the kitchen island, “How did you think it was gonna turn out?”

Just as he slid the oven mitts off, the smoke alarm started blaring. Oh, come on! Sam rushed over to the opposite side of the room, desperately waving one of the oven mitts in front of the screeching thing.

“I didn’t think it was possible for you to do any worse than that last hunt,” Lucifer spun around on the counter to face the giant, wicked smile pulling at the corner of his mouth, “But now…”

“Come on, turn off…turn off!” Sam began waving the mitt more frantically the longer the blaring alarm sounded.

“Big bro’s a deep sleeper, right?”

“Just shut up, alright?” Sam turned on his heel, snarling at his hallucination, “I don’t need to hear your sh-”

“Jesus, Sam!”

His brother’s panicked voice from the doorway startled the giant, and he couldn’t help the blush that darkened his cheeks at getting caught, of course this is when you walk in.

The blonde rushed over, snatching a towel off the counter as he came, before he joined his brother in waving the smoke away. They worked in silence for a good couple of minutes – long enough for Sam’s shoulders to begin aching from the repeated motion – before the alarm finally, thankfully turned off.

“Big bro to the rescue.” Even though his back was turned, Sam could hear the smirk in the devil’s voice, “Again.”

General, 2022’s Thanksgiving fic

“Don’t forget the beer!”

Sam shook his head as he headed out the door, “When have I ever?”

He let out a sigh as he closed it behind him, making his way to the car, that was way too easy.

“Can you blame him?”

The voice made the hunter jump, and he internally groaned as he saw the devil, who fell into step beside him, “Must you do that every time?”

“No, but it’s more fun,” Lucifer gave him a smirk as they climbed into the car. He stretched his legs out on the dash, giving the hunter a sideways glance, “Remind me again why he thought cooking a whole Thanksgiving feast was a good idea?”

Sam shrugged as the car roared to life, “I think maybe with everything that’s happened, losing Cas, then Bobby…” he let out another sigh as they pulled on to the road, “I think maybe he just wanted some semblance of normal.” For once.

That made Lucifer snort, “Since when do you guys do normal?”

“Trust me, I’d much rather do our usual grocery store turkey sandwiches and beer,” Sam shook his head as he drove, “but Dean was adamant. And if it gets him out of the mood he’s been in, I say why bother fighting it?”

“I guess,” Lucifer nodded, bringing his hands up to rest behind his head, “But he does know he’s gonna need water to cook, right? And it’s not like you can buy a Leviathan filter at the store.”

Sam chuckled, “Why do you think I’m getting ten cases of beer?”

“Out of the way!” Dean ran down the bunker stairs, holding the arm that wasn’t carrying six shopping bags out in front of him, “The feast has arrived!”

“And what hole-in-the-wall’s cold turkey entrée did you get this year?” Sam didn’t bother to look up from the book he was reading.

Dean silently mocked him, coming to a stop in front of the chair he was sitting in, “None.” He plopped the bag with the turkey in it on his lap, “I’m cooking.”

Sam raised an eyebrow as the turkey landed on him with a dull thud,You’re gonna cook?”

“Yeah!” Dean beamed at him before continuing toward the kitchen, the giant on his heels, “Why does that surprise you?”

“Well…” Sam set the turkey down on the counter, shifting his weight from one foot to the other, “You’re not exactly known for your cooking skills, Dean.”

“Pfft, so?” The blonde began putting the vegetables in the fridge, “You think just because I don’t do it often means I can’t?”

“No, of course not.” Sam slid himself down on one of the stools at the counter, “But I’ve seen you burn cereal, so…”

Okay, Cas threw the grocery bag down on the counter with a huff, starring into it with a mounting panic, what do I make first? He eyed the pie filling and the pie crusts, does pie take longer? He began lining all the cans out on the counter, starring over the flavours, I’ll start with these so I have time to perfect them for Dean. He grabbed one of the cans, placing it inside one of the shells, looking confused, that’s not how the picture looks… He picked the can up to inspect it. Upon shaking it, he heard a squishing, cheeks going red at his embarrassment even though he was alone, of course… it’s inside the can! He pulled a knife from a drawer, stabbing the top of the can – frowning when it didn’t open. He tapped the knife on the lid of the can again, sound of metal clinking against metal filling the air, how the hell…?

His eyes drifted slightly downward, toward the paper on the middle, he smirked as he turned the can on its’ side, taking the knife to the paper. The paper fell away from the can in a few slices, only to reveal more metal underneath, much to Cas’ dismay. The whole can is metal?

Huffing in rage, he grasped the can firmly in one hand and began sawing into it with the knife, using all the strength he could muster, “I… don’t…have…time…for…this.”

The Winchester brothers’ made their way through the bunker door, ears perking at the struggling noises coming from inside. Dean wiped blood from his eye as he nodded to his brother, the pair separating with their guns drawn, preparing to sweep the bunker. Fresh from a hunt, they were both still on high alert for any threats – even on Thanksgiving they didn’t get a break.

They moved into the hallway, where the grunting noises were getting louder. They stopped on either side of the kitchen doorway. Sam looked to his brother, holding his breath. At his brothers’ nod, they entered the room, raising their guns and startling the ex-angel.

“Cas?”

Gardein Stuffed Turk’y w/ Gravy Review

Loading

I know, I know, I missed Canadian Thanksgiving. But, I figured most of the people reading this are in the US, so I’m not late. (Technically)

AterImber.com - The Veg Life - Product Reviews - Gardein Stuffed Turk'y - vegan thanksgiving, vegan food, food review

I want to start off by saying I haven’t tried the other ‘holiday loafs’ that are out, so I can’t really do a comparison.

That said though, this one is good. The ‘stuffed turkeys’ were a lot smaller than I thought they’d be (they were only about the size of my palm), and for only having 2 per package, if you were planning on sharing, that kinda goes out the window.

Honestly, why do vegan companies insist on doing this? You want more people to go vegan? Make some family sized products! Then at least you have enough for people to try without them eating 50% of the only food you can eat at the get-together. Seriously, it’s getting ridiculous.

Okay, sorry about that, getting back on track, you probably won’t want to share these, because they’re so good. I mean, it could be better (without the breading, it just tastes like tofu) but it’s pretty good for what it is. I wouldn’t say ‘this will fool a meat eater’ or anything because it won’t. You 1,000,000% can tell it’s tofu with breadcrumbs and stuffing. But that’s okay! Not every vegan substitute needs to taste exactly like meat! I personally am fine with eating a mushroom burger that tastes like mushrooms. I’m one of those people who actually likes the taste of veggies, so for me, this tastes good.

If you’re someone who was hoping to find a holiday roast or something to fool a meat-eater, or like the closer-to-meat tasting substitutes, then this product isn’t for you. For that, I’d recommend Beyond Meat. Their beef burger tastes so much like beef I actually don’t like it as much. (Too weird for me)

I do wish that the stuffing didn’t come inside the turk’y as well. I don’t know if it’s how I grew up or whatever, but we never left the stuffing inside the meat. It would get cooked in there, and then served separate in it’s own bowl as a side dish. Also, I feel like by adding the stuffing it’s a biiit of a rip off, because you’re getting less ‘meat’. And again, for how tiny they are to begin with, you’d think they wouldn’t be that stingy. I’m also not too much a fan of the cranberries, but that’s just personal taste.

The breading holds up pretty well (as long as you oil the pan/use non-stick) and it isn’t too soft to cut through, either. I think they should’ve seasoned the ‘meat’/tofu itself though, just to give it a better flavour. If the breading comes off and you eat the stuffing separate, the ‘meat’ is pretty bland.

Also, for the gravy: You should give two packs of gravy, or make the pack of gravy resealable. That way, if you only want to make one of the little stuffed turk’y things, you can save some of the gravy for the second. As it is, you either have to eat both at the same time, or, eat one dry and one with gravy. And, while I’m complaining, put more gravy! The one pack is barely enough to cover one of the stuffed turk’ies. Remember, after you pour gravy over something with breading, the breading will soak up the gravy, thus making it ‘dry’ again. Hence, you need more!

All in all, for being a frozen meal, it’s pretty good. If you wanted to bring it for Thanksgiving dinner though, I’d recommend buying two packs. That way you’ll have enough should people get curious enough to try it, and you’ll have leftovers. (And, let’s face it, isn’t that the best part of Thanksgiving anyway?)
