C2C, SPN x Ghost Whisperer

This is the 2nd fic of a semi-connected 3 fic crossover mini series. The first fic of this series is Rainbow Road

“What’d he say?”

Melinda jumped at the sudden voice beside her. She turned to her passenger seat, somewhat calming as she saw it was the ghost. She rolled her eyes and hopped out of her car, “If you didn’t disappear, you could’ve heard.”

“I didn’t mean to,” The ghost appeared on her porch, “I wanted to see him, but I-” the ghost flickered where he stood. His brows furrowed as he looked down to his flickering form, “I don’t understand.”

“It’s alright,” Melinda made her way toward the porch, stopping when she reached the steps. She gave the ghost a once over – now he was appearing clearly, and not covered head to toe in mud, she saw he was no more than sixteen, had dirty blonde hair, and was easily taller than Jim. She couldn’t help the stab her heart felt at his fallen face. “It can take time to learn how to appear.”

“I’m not ready,” The ghost shook his head, bringing scared eyes up from the ground to her face.

“I-I know this must be hard.” She shifted where she stood, taking a small step closer, “I can go back tomorrow. You can come with me, and maybe we can-”

“No!” The ghost’s outburst made her jump. His eyes turned angry, and he took a charged step toward her, “I’m not ready! I’m not-”

Bang!

Melinda screamed and ducked as she heard a gunshot. Staying crouched, she looked around wildly, seeing two men running toward her with shotguns. Oh my God! She hurried up her porch steps, shaking hands trying to unlock her door.

“Hey!”

She got the door unlocked just as they reached her porch. She slid inside the door, slamming it closed behind her, locking it before she ran up her stairs, speed-dialling Jim.

“Hey, Mel, I was just about to call you. Turns out Tom wasn’t actually sick, so I’m-”

Jim!” Melinda couldn’t help the tears that sprang to her eyes as she booked it into their bedroom, pulling the closet door closed.

“What happened?”

“I-I was…” She sniffed loudly, forcing herself to take a deep breath so she could get the words out, “T-they… they tried to shoot me!”

“I’m ten minutes away.” Even through the phone, she could hear the sound of Jim’s truck speed up, “Get somewhere safe and hide.”

“I-I’m in our closet.” She could hear loud banging floating up the stairs, “I think they’re trying to break in.”

“Okay, good. Stay in the closet and call the police.”

“No!” Melinda swiped with her free hand at the tears running down her face, “D-don’t hang up.”

“Mel-”

“Jim, please.” She lowered her voice as she heard the front door bang open, “Oh my God.”

“Mel? What is it? What happened?”

“You can’t stay here.”

“Oh!” Melinda turned around in the small space, breath quickening as she was nose to nose with the ghost, “What are you talking about?”

“You’re not safe here.” The ghost opened the closet doors, stepping out into the room, “You need to run.”

“Mel?”

Melinda took a cautious step out of the closet, “Run where?”

“No, Mel, stay in the closet. I’m almost there.”

The ghost pointed to the bedroom window. She took a cautious step toward it, slightly lowering the phone from her ear as her eyes drifted to the open bedroom door.

She turned back to the ghost, shaking her head as the sounds of the men stomping through the first floor floated up, “You want me to jump?”

“Better hurry.”

The creak of someone standing on the bottom step was all the incentive Melinda needed. She dropped the phone and rushed to the window, undoing the latch, before pushing it open.

It swung out, cool night air blowing in as her eyes searched the side of the house for something she could climb down on. She suddenly felt stupid for making sure Jim put the ladder back in the garage after he finished cleaning out the gutters yesterday.

She shook her head, turning back to the ghost, “I-I won’t make it.”

There you are!”

The voice from the doorway made her jump, eyes widening with fright as she spotted a tall man in plaid pointing a shotgun at her. Her chin trembled as she raised her hands, “P-please, don’t-”

Bang!

Another shot rang out, making her duck behind the bed. She did a quick pat down of herself, eyebrows furrowing as she realized she wasn’t hit. She brought her eyes off herself and noticed the ghost had disappeared.

She heard more footsteps, stopping in her doorway, “You get it?”

“Yep.”

“Good. Maybe he’ll stay gone until we figure out where he’s buried.”

Melinda frowned at that, buried? Why would they

“What about the woman?”

“What about her? We just saved her life.”

“Dean.”

“What? We can never get a thank-you?”

How stupid does he think I am? Sam was dressed way too nicely to be ‘hanging out’ like he claimed to be. Not to mention his face was as red as the time he caught him with a Playboy – but if Sam didn’t want to tell his brother he was going on his first date, he wasn’t gonna push.

Dean just couldn’t help but feel a little insulted. Don’t get him wrong, he understood why he wouldn’t want the girl to meet John – Dean himself had hid many girls from their father – but what he couldn’t understand was why Sam didn’t want him to meet her?

“H-hey,” Sam nearly dropped his phone with relief as his date walked up, “You made it.”

“You thought I wouldn’t?” His eyes were sparkling even though he raised an eyebrow.

“No! No, I just, uh,” Sam slipped his phone back into his pocket, eyes diverting to the sidewalk, “I wasn’t sure if you were gonna change your mind.”

“Change my mind?” He brought a hand to the brunette’s chin, gently lifting his face so they were face to face, “I would never change my mind about going out with you, Sammich.”

Dean took a long sip from his beer, eyes on the kids. He choked on it as he spotted Taylor’s swimsuit. He coughed, pulling the beverage away from his mouth, “W-what the hell is she wearing?”

“Her bathing suit.”

The blonde scoffed, pointing an accusatory finger at his little girl – who was definitely too young to be wearing a two-piece, “That is not her bathing suit!”

“Dean-”

“Where the hell did she get that?” He whistled, waving his daughter over, “That better not of been a present.”

“Relax, Dean.”

“Relax? Relax?” The blonde let out an incredulous chuckle, “My baby girl is wearing a bikini!”

“It’s not a-”

“How can you be so calm about this?” Dean shook his head just as Taylor came up to him. He cleared his throat, softening his voice, “Hey, Sweetheart. You having fun?”

“Yeah!”

“Good, good.” The blonde rubbed a hand on his chin, giving her a once over, she might as well be naked! “So, uh… w-where’d you get that?”

“Get what?”

Dean let out a nervous chuckle, gesturing to her bathing suit, “That… thing.”

“My bathing suit?” Taylor’s face lit up as the blonde nodded, “Dad got it for me!” She did a little twirl, tiny pink skirt flying up as she did so, “Isn’t it pretty, Daddy?”

Dean swallowed hard, “Y-yeah, it’s…” He turned bewildered eyes to his husband, “You bought that for her?”

“I thought you were gonna drop it?”

Dean sputtered, gesturing to the bedroom, “Dropping it isn’t the same as giving him my blessing.”

Cas rolled his eyes, plopping himself down on the bed, letting out an annoyed groan. He’d been trying to talk Dean into finally agreeing to let Crowley pop the question for weeks – to no avail. Hell, all of them – him, Sam, even Gabriel had tried, but Dean was nothing if not stubborn. And when Dean Winchester had made up his mind about something, he was hard pressed to change it.

Not that it stopped them all from trying. None of them could understand why the blonde was being so stubborn. Crowley had saved his life – same as Gabriel – but that apparently didn’t matter. Dean just wasn’t budging.

“Are you forgetting he saved you?”

“Oh, please!” Dean crinkled his nose, waving a dismissive hand at the angel, “I’m so sick of hearing that! It’s not like I asked him to save me!”

Cas felt the anger bubble up in his chest again, and he rose from the bed, “So you would’ve been just as happy if he didn’t? If that demon had killed you, oh well?”

“No, Cas, you know that’s not what I mean!” Dean scrubbed a hand through his hair, whole body tense, why can’t I make you understand? “It’s just-”

“What, Dean? He’s what?”

“H-he… he’s still….”

“Yeah…?”

“He’s still him!”

“He’s changed!”

“People don’t change!”

“But he’s not even a person!”

“Exactly!” Dean let out a humourless chuckle, “If people don’t change, demons for sure as shit aren’t gonna!”

Cas threw up his hands, “How can you still be so…. so you about this?” Cas forced himself to take a deep breath, and walked the few steps over to the now-retired hunter, “He makes Bobby happy. Don’t you think he deserves that?”

“Of course I do.” Dean’s tone was lowering to match the angel’s, even though his chest was still huffing, “I just don’t think Crowley is right for him.”

“Okay, fine. Then who would you pick?”

Dean blinked in surprise at his angel, “What?”

Cas gave him a pointed look, crossing his arms over his chest, “You think you can do a better job finding someone for Bobby? Go ahead, pick someone.”

“W-well,” Dean shifted his weight, “I… I don’t know anyone off the top of my head-”

“Uh-huh.”

The corner of the blonde’s mouth twitched, “You know what? Fine! I will find someone better for Bobby, and when I do, all you guys have to drop this.”

“Fine,” Cas stuck out his hand for them to shake on it, pulling the ex-hunter in close once their hands touched, “But if you can’t, you will give Crowley your blessing.”

Dean’s eyes narrowed, searching the angel’s face for a moment, before he nodded, “Deal.”

“Son of a bitch!”

Sam bashed his head on the window in his haste to sit up. He brought a hand up to rub at the side of his head, frowning with confusion as his eyes landed on the empty driver’s seat. He rubbed the sleep from his eyes as he moved them to the windshield, spotting his brother staring at something laying on the road in front of the car.

The giant rolled down his window, doing his best to push his sleepiness down, “What happened?”

The blonde shook his head, kicking at whatever was in front of the Impala, “Ran over a squirrel.”

Sam’s brows furrowed, “What?”

“A squirrel!” He gestured to the road, “It was a fat one!”

“So?”

Dean scoffed, “His guts are all over the front of the car!” He shook his head before making his way back to the driver’s seat, “I just cleaned her, too!”

“Sioux Falls has a car wash,” Sam rolled his window back up, stifling a yawn, “we can run through it before we go to Bobby’s.”

“No, we can’t.” Dean shook his head as he pulled back out onto the road, “We’re on our way there to help with a vamp nest. She’s just gonna get dirty again.”

“Then you can wash her after the hunt.” Sam’s brows furrowed as he leaned his head against the window again, eyes slipping closed, “What’s the big deal?”

The blonde let out a sigh, “I just…” his voice trailed off before he cleared his throat, “Nothing. Never mind.”

Sam adjusted his position, so his neck wasn’t so craned leaning against the window. He listened to the tires rolling down the road, the gentle whoosh of the wind flying passed the car, and his brother’s breathing. The sounds worked together like a lullaby, pulling him back toward sleep. He groaned in annoyance as he felt a whack to his shoulder, not bother to open his eyes, “What?”

He heard the blonde take in a breath, pausing before whatever he was gonna say came out of his mouth. The youngest heard him adjust his grip on the steering wheel, “You’re drooling on the window.”

“You know where we could go to fix that?”

“Fine, fine! We’ll take her to a car wash.” Even with his eyes closed, he could see his brother shake his head, “Gonna need industrial strength cleaner to get your nasty salad-drool off the glass, anyway.”

“That’s the spirit.”

“Yeah, yeah. Just shut up and enjoy your sleep, Bitch.”

“Jerk.”

This is your big secret?” He rolled his eyes again, “You could’ve hid this anywhere in Bobby’s house without him finding it, y’know. Why don’t you try to hide it on one of his thousand bookshe-” the hunter cut himself off as Crowley opened the box, revealing the shining engagement ring that was inside. Dean’s eyes flicked between the ring and the demon a few times, before he raised an eyebrow, “… What the hell is that?” He peered closer at it, eyebrows raising in surprise, “I-is that an engagement ring?”

“Yep.”

“And you’re showing me this…?”

Crowley let out an exasperated sigh, snapping the box closed, “I know Moose is the smart one, but honestly I didn’t think I’d have to spell it out for you.” At the still-confused look, he shook his head, slipping the box back into his jacket, “It’s for Bobby, genius.”

Bobby?” Dean’s eyebrows shot up, lips twitching, “Y-you’re kidding, right?” At the serious look, the blonde snorted, licking his lips in a failed attempt to keep his laughter at bay, “Y-you are gonna ask…” his voice trailed off into a fit of laughter.

Crowley gave the hunter a tight smile, “Yeah, yeah, it’s hilarious.” He shot the blonde a death glare and stood up from the chair, “I knew I shouldn’t have told you.”

Dean shook his head, “I-I’m sorry,” his shoulders twitched as he tried to wipe at his eyes, “it’s just, the thought of you asking Bobby to…” the blonde cleared his throat, trying to get his laughter under control, “that’s just… I mean, that would-”, the smile slid off his face, and he turned now-worried eyes to the demon, “t-that would make us…

“Relax,” Crowley waved a dismissive hand, unable to keep the cheeky smile off his face, “you won’t have to call me Daddy.”

Dean’s face scrunched at the mental image and shuddered, “Ugh.”

Crowley rolled his eyes, retaking his seat, turning expectant eyes to the hunter, “So…?”

“So…?”

Crowley huffed “How did the two of you once save the world?” He brought his eyes back to the blonde, and spoke slowly, “What do you think?”

Dean’s brows furrowed, “What do you mean? What do I think… about you wanting to marry Bobby?” At the nod, Dean sputtered for a moment, “I uh, I don’t know. It’s weird. I mean, do demons even- wait,” Dean raised an eyebrow, “Why are you asking?”

Crowley scrubbed a hand down his face, pursing his lips, “Because, I need to ask Bobby’s next-of-kin for permission.”

“But Bobby doesn’t have-” Dean cut himself off, eyes going wide as he finally realized what the demon was asking, “o-oh!” He tried to shift closer, but was still unable to move, and raised an eyebrow, “You need my permission before you can ask him?”

Crowley shrugged, “I’m unfortunately bound by tradition.”

The blonde smirked, “So, you won’t pop the question unless I say it’s okay?”

Crowley sighed, “Well, you and Moose, but I’ve already asked him.”

“What? When?”

Crowley waved a dismissive hand, “That’s not important. What’s important is getting your answer.”

“No way in Hell.”

Yes!” Dean jumped up from the couch, dropping the sweaty controller on the table in triumph as the winner music played, 1st Place flashing on the screen, “Take that you little red-wearing bitch!”

He blinked his watery eyes, looking around for the first time in 19 courses. He grabbed his phone from the table, checking the time, 3am? I didn’t think I’d been playing that long… Now that his concentration was broken, the blonde realized how hungry he was.

He stretched his arms out over his head, back cracking loudly as he did so, ugh. Dean started toward the doorway, stifling a yawn, I’m gonna need fuel if I wanna beat Rainbow Road first try. He stretched his head to one side, then the other as he made his way down the hall, barely noticing the lights were flickering.

Dean made it to the kitchen, brows furrowing as he pulled open the fridge, seriously? He sighed in disappointment as he looked over his slim options, guess I know what I’m doing tomorrow. He closed the fridge before pulling open a cupboard, smiling as he grabbed a box of crackers.

The smile slid off his face as he shook the box. He flicked it open, sighing again as he spotted four crackers in the bottom. Dean closed the box, before replacing it on the shelf, small smirk on his face, since you were saving them…

He walked the few steps back over to the fridge, grabbing the last beer. He twisted the cap off, taking a swig as he stared at the lone apple sitting on the shelf. His stomach let out a loud grumble then, and he reluctantly snatched up the fruit, rabbit food is better than nothing, I guess.

Dean closed the appliance, before exiting the kitchen, making his way back to his man cave. He took a bite out of the apple just as he plopped himself down on his couch. Alright you little bitch, he took a swig from his beer before setting both down on the table next to his phone, picking up the controller again, let’s see what you’re made of.

The blonde pressed the button to advance to the next course, wiping his hands on his thighs in anticipation as the camera panned the length of the multi-coloured road. Here we go… Dean subconsciously leaned closer as the camera came down on the racers, thumb twitching over the gas button as he waited for the light to turn green.

The blonde jumped as the light changed, mashing his thumb into the gas button, letting out a dissatisfied groan as his go-kart stalled, “No, no, no! Come on!”

He watched in despair as the seven computer-generated racers flew passed him. He grit his teeth, mashing his thumb back on the button as his go-kart finally moved. His eyes were glued to the track before him, being less careful than he should’ve been for a road with an awaiting abyss. He drifted too hard going into the first corner, go-kart skidding right over the edge of the track.

He sucked his teeth in frustration as he was fished out, being placed back on the track. His go-kart stalled again as it broke through a power-up box, much to his dissatisfaction. He started back down the track, small smile splitting his face as he got the three speed boost. He used them all in succession, quickly making up the distance between him and the other racers.

His legs twitched as he went into another corner, right on the tail of the seventh racer. His brows furrowed in determination as he went flying ahead of them, before tossing a banana peel a few feet ahead, smile lighting up his face as the sixth racer spun out of control.

Dean went through another power up box, unable to keep his evil laugh at bay as he once again got the speed booster. He hit two in a row, swerving between the fifth and fourth racers, “Now we’re talking!”

The blonde flicked his eyes to the map of the course in the corner, eyes zeroing in on the plumber, who was in first place. Not for long, red. He set his sights on the dinosaur that was a few feet ahead of him as he broke through another power up box.

His heart began to hammer in his chest as he watched the box cycle through the possible options. He wiped a sweaty hand on his leg again as he came to another corner. He took the turn too wide, mashing the right arrow button as he skidded dangerously close to the edge of the track again, “No, no, no! Come on, you little mushroom-head!”

In the next instant, the air around him changed, and he found himself speeding down a bridge. Whoa! He slammed on the breaks as his brain realized he was no longer sitting on his couch.

Dean blinked in surprise as he saw he was now sitting in a go-kart, dangerously close to falling off the edge of a bridge. He carefully peered over the side, boulder settling into his stomach as he saw an endless ocean, too far below for him to even attempt measuring.

Holding his breath, he carefully climbed out of the go-kart, backing up a few steps as it pitched over the side of the bridge. He swallowed hard as he was able to count ten seconds before hearing the splash, guess that rules out jumping.

Shaking his head, he turned around, taking a moment to orient himself. The bridge he was standing on had slow-flickering lights running through it, and looked like it was made out of crystal. There was what appeared to be a giant, metal mountain at the farthest end, and an observatory on the side he was closest to.

Where the hell am I? He instinctively reached to his pocket for his phone, groaning with annoyance as he remembered it was sitting on the coffee table. He scrubbed a hand down his face as he weighed his options, so, not only am I God-knows-where, but I also don’t have my phone? That’s… awesome.

He let out a sigh before starting in the direction of the observatory, there’s a better chance someone’s in there than in the metal mountain… right?

Dean huffed as he reached the doorway to the observatory, leaning against it as he caught his breath, it didn’t look that far away. He straightened back up after a moment, taking in the surroundings of the room. It was covered in gold gear-shaped objects, with an elevated platform in the middle, holding some sort of podium.

Dean made his way over to the podium cautiously, noting the half-moon shaped mural behind it. He made his way up the steps of the platform, eyes widening as he neared the painting, those stars look so real… He placed a hand on the wall, retracting it as he felt it was glass. This is a window?

He let out a low whistle as he continued staring, “I don’t think I’m in Kansas, anymore.”

“You’d be correct.”

This is fic #8 of the Unlearning Series!

“Dean?”

Crap, the blonde swivelled around in the chair, trying not to look as guilty as he felt as Cas came down the stairs, “Cas! H-hey,” He stood, in a failed attempt to block the wall, “What, uh, what’re you doing up?”

“Still adjusting, I guess,” Cas reached the bottom of the stairs, tired eyes flicking up to the wall, “You’re hunting?” He walked a few steps closer, wrapping the blonde up in his arms, “We just got you back!”

Dean let out a nervous chuckle, “I-I know. I just…” he let his voice trail off as he tried to think of a good lie, backing out of the hug.

“Is it important?”

Dean blinked in surprise, “What?”

“What you’re hunting,” the angel took a step closer to the wall, tilting his head to one side as he studied it, “Is it-” his sentence cut off into a sigh as he got a closer look, “Crowley?” He turned, raising an eyebrow, “You’re still hunting Crowley? After you almost died?”

“Cas-”

The angel took in a huffing breath, “You’ve been back all of two weeks, and you’re already planning on jumping back into the fire?”

Dean held his hands out in mock surrender, “I can explain!” At the raised eyebrow, Dean sputtered, running a hand through his hair, “H-he’s… he’s up to something! I don’t know what yet, but he is. I know he is.” At the scoff, he pointed to the wall, “Look! I saw him at Sam’s wedding. He snuck out right before the ceremony to make some shady deal. And when I followed him-”

“Wait, wait, wait,” Cas pinched the bridge of his nose, “That was the reason you left as they started down the aisle?”

Written as a sort-of sequel to Puppy Love

“Come on, girl,” Sam gently pushed the food bowl closer to the dog with his foot, “You gotta eat.”

The dog let out a depressed huff and turned away from the bowl. Sam let out a sigh of his own before sliding himself down the wall to sit on the floor, “I know.”

The dog walked the few steps over and rested her head on his leg, giving him a knowing look. The giant let out another sigh and patted her on the head, doing his best to ignore the devil who was starring at them from the corner, “I miss him, too.”

“Seriously?” Dean rolled his eyes, crossing his arms over his chest, “You’re telling me I can’t go hunting alone?”

“No, I’m just saying-” Sam let out a huff and cut himself off, concentrating harder than he should’ve on keeping his eyes on the wooden table he was sitting at and not on the devil in the corner, “We don’t even know how to kill these things yet, and you want to go storming in the front door?” Sam shook his head, “That’s not a hunt, it’s a suicide mission.”

“What if,” Lucifer strode over to the table, finger tracing its way toward the chip the giant was picking at, “Big Bro wants to go on a suicide mission? Ever since Bobby died, he’s been acting pr-”

“I’ll be fine, Sammy.” Dean waved a dismissive hand, picking his packed duffle up off the couch, “It’s not the first time we fought them, remember?”

Sam jumped up from the table as he felt the fallen angel’s finger touch his hand. He did his best to shake it off and turned his eyes to his brother, “Last time we had to drop a car on one of them – and he still walked away!”

“You’re over-reacting.” Dean threw his duffle up on his shoulder, taking a few steps toward the cabin door, “I’ll be fine.”

“Dean,” Sam rushed forward, stopping as Lucifer appeared in front of the door first, crossing his arms over his chest. Sam’s brows knit together in confusion a moment, how did you…? Nevermind, he turned around to face his brother, “I should come with you.”

Dean raised an eyebrow and nodded to the few feet between the giant and the door, “After that? No, no way.”

“But Dean-”

“No, Sam. You’re in no shape to be hunting.”

Lucifer snorted from behind the giant, “Somebody needs to take a look in the mirror.”

Sam shook his head, trying to ignore the devil, “Then, at least let me call Garth, or-”

No, Sam!” Dean let out a heavy breath after a moment, running a hand through his hair. He lowered his gaze to the floor, shifting his weight, “No other hunter is gonna go after them as hard as me.”

Sam closed his eyes, bracing himself for his brother’s reaction, “We’re not the only one’s who lost him, Dean.” He opened his eyes as Lucifer whistled, taking a step forward as he saw his brother was still starring at the ground, “Getting yourself killed isn’t what he would’ve wanted.”

The blonde ran a hand through his hair, letting out a heavy sigh. He finally brought his eyes back up to his brother, “I’ll check in.”

“Dean-”

“I’ll call Garth in the car, okay?” The blonde shifted the bag on his shoulder, “I just…” He reached for the door knob, turning to look back at his brother, “You’ll be okay for a few days alone, right?”

Sam swallowed thickly before nodding, giving his brother what he hoped was a reassuring smile, “’Course.”

Lucifer pushed off the wall, making his way over to where the giant was on the floor, stopping short as the dog started growling, “I think you’re keeping it together pretty well. Y’know, considering…”

Sam shook his head, instinctively grinding his left palm into the ground, how am I supposed to get rid of him without you?

“Sammy, that hurts.” Lucifer frowned at the hunter, backing off a few steps before plopping himself down on the ground, “Aren’t you curious to know why I haven’t left you alone since he died?” He placed a hand to the side of his mouth and leaned forward slightly, “It’s because you need me.”

Pfft, please. Sam watched as the dog got up, walking a few steps forward, putting herself between the hunter and the hallucination before laying back down.

“Didn’t she used to hate you?”

Sam shook his head, smiling at the memory, she doesn’t hate me, she hates you.

“Well, that’s just rude.”

Sam shrugged as he starred at her, eyes drifting down to her full food dish, this isn’t good, it’s been three days since she’s eaten. He scooted himself closer to her, reaching forward to pet her back, “You’ve gotta eat something soon.”

“Hypocrite.”

Sam’s eyes flicked up, excuse me?

Lucifer shook his head, pointing an accusatory finger at the hunter, “You haven’t eaten in days, either. You can’t tell her to eat if you won’t.”

Sam rolled his eyes, thanks for the life lesson, Satan.

The devil shrugged, “Just sayin’. Dogs – or, at least, hellhounds – can pick up on their master’s mood. They’ll mimic behaviour. How do you think we train the pups to fetch souls so quickly?”

I’ve honestly never thought about it. Sam let his eyes drift back to the dog, letting out a deflating sigh, I never should’ve let him go on that hunt…

“I don’t understand,” Sammy’s head poked out from behind the bowl that was holding a mountain of ice cream that was sitting in front of him, brows pulled together in confusion, “Where’s dinner?”

That’s dinner,” An annoyed Dean hopped up to sit on the kitchen counter, grabbing the end of the pint and a spoon.

Sammy’s brows pulled together further, and his eyes went to the mountain in front of him, “You want me to eat this?”

“Yeah, dude.” Dean resisted the urge to roll his eyes – tell any other kid they could eat ice cream for dinner, they’d be ecstatic. Tell Sam he gets to? You get interrogated.
